Creativity is hard to measure, but one thing we can all agree on is the importance of a clear message. That's where I come in.

"He's damn good." - Everyone

Anyone can buy furniture online, but you need a skilled craftsman to have it custom made. Likewise, I use my digital toolbox to animate, edit, narrate or illustrate unique ideas. Whatever fits the job best.

Anyone can buy a bookshelf on amazon, but it takes a skilled craftsman to have one built to your specific needs. Likewise, I use my digital toolbox to craft a message. Utilizing whichever one fits the job best.

About me?

Well, since you asked...

Who is NBBerg?

NBBerg stands for Nicholas Bartle Berg, a San Diego based creative professional. Originally from Gnaw Bone, Indiana. Yes, that is a real place.

How did you learn your craft?

At 8 years old, before I could play music, I taught myself how to record it. At 12, I started editing videos. 3 years later I found photoshop. So it goes... the world just keeps giving me more tools to create with. I'm smitten.

I like to credit my craftsman mentality to my dad, a woodworker who builds musical instruments for a living. He taught me that you don't just learn how to make something, you learn many different skills that, when done in a certain order, can make something.

In college, I studied multimedia arts. After that, I explored my options, traveled the country, gained work experience, and learned how to achieve large goals. Ultimately, this landed me a job as a designer at a startup. There, I not only participated in shaping a brand from scratch but also basked in the wisdom of seasoned professionals with rich backgrounds in the academic sector. This imparted on me invaluable lessons about balancing creativity with communication, forward thinking, and maintaining high standards.

Add all this up, and it's easy to see the big picture. Get creative with it. ;)

What are your core values?

Despite my strong musical affinity, I've lived with severe sensorineural hearing loss since birth. This condition belongs to a broader category of communication disorders, which impact speech, language, and attention, and share symptoms with autism, ADHD, and central auditory processing disorder. Like many, I display several of the symptoms of these disorders, yet they are often unacknowledged. Consequently, it is a segment of our society that remains misunderstood and deprived of help and resources.

My passion lies in crafting creative works that embrace inclusive visual learning strategies. By doing so, I aim to bridge gaps in understanding for individuals with similar challenges. I advocate for educational materials that are more direct, engaging, and visually rich, believing that they not only aid those with specific learning needs but also enhance everyone's learning experience.

What inspires you?

I'm inspired by innovative artists that embrace technology, welcome change, and aren't afraid to challenge the status quo, such as Greta Gerwig, Andy Warhol, Terry Gilliam, Wes Anderson, Jim Henson, and the Beastie Boys.

Also, I am a huge fan of behavioral economics and its applications in design.

What's your opinion on AI destroying creativity and art?

A few thoughts.

One, people still like to go fishing, don't they?

Two, sometimes the best art is derived from failures, mistakes, or unserious ideas.

Three, if AI can do a better job than humans, I will gladly let it take the job of making the world a better place. Until then I'm gonna keep working at it.

Do you have another portfolio with more work?

I sure do. Here's the link.

Are you cool?

I think I am...
